Serena Williams is the GOAT in women’s tennis. Her career in singles likely ended with a third round loss at the US Open. The turnout was incredible for Serena.

A tip the hat to the Buckeyes of Ohio State for taking over in the fourth quarter to deny Notre Dame ⁦from pulling a big upset. Too much CJ Stroud and company.

A big NBA deal as the Cavs get Donovan Mitchell from Utah. They may have given up too much. Collin sexton, lauri markannen. Ochai Agbayi, three first and two pick swaps head to the Jazz.

The 2022 ESPYs were so special for me and my family.

I received the Jimmy V Perseverance Award and it was an incredible honor. Seeing so many great athletes and hearing passionate stories all night long was truly touching.

If you didn’t get emotional after stories on Vitali Klitschko and his struggles in Ukraine, you were missing out. If you didn’t understand how special Billie Jean King was speaking about Title Ix turning 50 years old…wow!

Receiving this award made me think of the very first ESPYs. Jimmy V gave the speech of a lifetime, don’t give up, don’t ever give up. That started the V Foundation and we have raised over 150 million dollars for cancer research.

We need even more dollars to beat this dreaded disease. We have made great strides, but there is a lot more work ahead. If you can donate, please give to the V Foundation.

I want to thank the ESPYs, my second family at ESPN, President Jimmy Pitaro, former President George Bodenheimer, Chris German, and everyone involved in a special evening that I will never forget.

The 2022 NBA draft is in the books and it started off with drama.
There was lots of speculation that Auburn’s Jabari Smith Jr. would go number one. Orlando surprised some by choosing Paolo Banchero from Duke. I believe the Magic made the right decision because they need an immediate impact player and Banchero will fill that role. I feel he will be a big star at the next level.
I love what Detroit did, adding Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren. Ivey will team up with Cade Cunningham to form a dynamic duo. I love their potential. Dwayne Casey’s team should improve next season.
The Sacramento Kings are going to appreciate the addition of Keegan Murray. His versatility and scoring ability will help the Kings improve. I love guys that can shoot the rock.
Portland took the mystery man, Shaedon Sharpe, who has looked super in video highlights. He practiced with Kentucky but did not play with the Wildcats. The key to playing in the NBA will be his ability to respond in game situations. He is going to a perfect place to grow as the Blazers are in a rebuilding mode.
I loved the Hornets picking up Mark Williams from Duke. The 7-2 defensive wizard is a terrific shot blocker and rim protector. Michael Jordan’s club took a player from his favorite school in North Carolina! I believe Williams will be special in his first three years.
There were several quality players that slid down to the second round. I feel Jalen Hardy from the G League and Kennedy Chandler of Tennessee could contribute right away.
The winners in the draft were the Pistons, Thunder, Magic and Spurs.

The Warriors got great contributions from Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymnd Green and Jordan Poole. The Celtics fell short but the future is bright with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart.

Matt Fitzpatrick won the U.S. Open, capturing his first major, beating Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler by one stroke.

Is there a mercy rule in hockey there should have been one at game two if the Stanley Cup finals. Colorado 7, Tampa Bay 0. Ouch.
