It was a busy week for sports. The NBA came back and there were several great games. TJ Warren of the Pacers had 53 points in a win over the Sixers. The Rockets beat the Mavericks in a wild game. The Celtic edged the Blazers. The Raptors beat the Lakers.

The NHL postseason started and there were early upsets. The Blackhawks beat the Oilers. The Coyotes turned the Predators.

Justin Thomas won the Fed Ex St. Jude Invitational. 

Oklahoma gave Lincoln Riley a six-year contract extension. The Chargers gave Joey Bosa a five-year contract extension.

The Pac-10 went to a conference-only football schedule for this season.

Baseball is back. NBA preseason also returned. The WNBA season began at IMG Academy. NHL is coming soon. We have boxing, golf, UFC, some tennis.

Will NFL and college football happen in September?

The highlight was Gerrit Cole vs. Max Scherzer. The Yankees pitcher was outstanding in his first start with the Bronx Bombers. Then there was Nelson Cruz of the Twins with 10 RBI in the last two games. 

Michael Thompson won the PGA’s 3M Classic.

Sports is coming back.

It was great to see baseball back on the field even if it was preseason. No fans, social distancing, masks. 

Clint Frazier and Didi Gregorius homered wearing masks!

We also enjoyed The Memorial golf tournament. Several big names missed the cut, including Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler. It was nice to see Tiger Woods made the cut. In the end, the winner was Jon Rahm, who moved to #1 in the world rankings.

Big news out of college football as the Big Ten and Pac-12 cancelled all non-conference games. Matchups like Michigan-Washington, Ohio State-Oregon and Notre Dame-Wisconsin, Notre Dame-USC and Alabama-USC disappeared. The Atlantic Coast Conference announced that each of its fall Olympic Sports will delay the start of competition until at least September 1.

The Ryder Cup for 2020 was also postponed until 2021.

It was certainly a good week for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. He received a lucrative, 10-year contract extension.

Collin Morikawa rallied from three shots back with three holes to play, beating Justin Thomas in a playoff to win the PGA event.

Sideline Cancer and Golden Eagles made the final of TBT.

Bryson DeChambeau is making a name for himself. He has been so impressive on the PGA Tour, winning over the weekend at the Rocket Mortgage event.

It was nice to see the TBT (The Basketball Tournament) was back in action. Great to see a number of former college hoop stars in action.

The MLB All-Star game was the latest sporting event to be cancelled.

The Patriots went out and signed Cam Newton. He will battle another Auburn QB, Jared Stidham.

Dustin Jonson earned his 21st career PGA title by winning The Travelers by one shot.

More bad news in terms of cancellations. The Pro Football Hall of Fame game between the Steelers and Cowboys was cancelled, as was the NYC Marathon.

There was a lot of news from the world of sports this week.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. led the group going into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Bob Stoops, Gary Pinkel, Champ Bailey and Carson Palmer led a list of candidates for the College Football Hall of Fame.

The first Triple Crown horse race took place. Tiz the Law won the Belmont Stakes.

The US Open tennis tournament will be played and Serena Williams announced plans to compete.

I hope that MLB and the MLBPA can get things together and bring baseball back. It is not looking great right now.

We did have some live sports. UFC, Boxing, PGA, NASCAR. I hope we return to more normalcy soon.

Denny Hamlin was impressive in winning the race in Homestead, Florida. Daniel Berger won a playoff to win the PGA event in Fort Worth.

The big news this week is the return of the NBA. 

The NBA board of governors voted to approve a 22-team format to restart the 2019-20 season July 31 in Orlando, Florida.

It will be interesting to see the eight games before the playoffs. Will guys be in shape? How long will it take others to be in game shape?

Fans will be excited as we will crown a champion.

More cancellations in sports.

The Boston Marathon will not be run this year.

The Basketball Hall of Fame inductions, with Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and the late Eddie Sutton among others, will be held in 2021.

Not much in the sports world. UFC saw Gilbert Burns look impressive against former champ Tyron Woodley.

There were sports over the Memorial Day weekend.

Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning edged Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in a charity golf event in Florida. Over five million people watched it on TV and the contest raised millions for charity.

Memorial Day I hope people took a moment to pray for all those that have lost their lives in representing the RED  WHITE & BLUE. 

I miss my sports! At least we had a little on Sunday.

Kevin Harvick won at Darlington. Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson won the charity skins event.

More cancellations. The 2020 Hall of Fame Open and the International Tennis Hall of Fame Class of 2020 Induction Ceremony will not take place this July as a result of COVID-19.

We did get NASCAR back, golf and more UFC. Hopefully more will return soon.

It was another slow sports week. Fortunately the NFL and UFC kept fans busy.

Justin Gaethje beat Tony Ferguson and Henry Cejudo defeated Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 in Jacksonville. It was nice to have a live sporting event.

The NFL schedule was released. The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs open the season against the Houston Texans in a playoff rematch.

I’m excited as Tom Brady and Drew Brees are scheduled to meet in week one. The Bucs and the Saints should we awesome baby!

Let’s hope we can start the season on time!

Another slow sports week.

A couple of quarterbacks signed contracts. Jameis Winston went to New Orleans while Andy Dalton landed in Dallas.

A major coaching change as Steve Forbes, who won 30 games at East Tennessee State last season, was hired at wake Forest. He took over for Danny Manning.

More cancellations were announced, including the Little League World Series and the NBA Draft lottery.

Lots of sports news this week.

Congrats to LSU’s Joe Burrow, the top pick in the NFL draft. He will shine as a Bengal. Chase Young went second to Washington.

There were a handful of trades, including Trent Williams going to the Niners.

News from women’s basketball as Notre Dame’s Muffet McGraw retired.

Baseball news as Alex Cora was suspended for the 2020 season.

Some sports news this week. The college basketball awards were announced.

Dayton's Obi Toppin wins the Wooden Award and the Naismith Award over Luka Garza.

Garza won the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award for best center; Payton Pritchard won the Bob Cousy Award for best point guard; Myles Powell won the Jerry west Award for best shooting guard; and Villanova’s Saddiq Bey won the Julius Erving Award.

The NFL’s All-Decade Team was also announced. Among the stars from 2010-19 included Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Donald made the list.

Another tough week for the sports world. A number of events were postponed or cancelled, led by Wimbledon.

One positive was the announcement of the newest class of the Basketball Hall of Fame. The late, great Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Eddie Sutton, Rudy Tomjanovich, Tamika Catchings, Kim Mulkey, Barbara Stevens and Patrick Baumann will be inducted in Springfield. Congrats to a great group.

While most sports were silenced during the pandemic, the NFL was very busy.

There were plenty of free agent signings, led by Tom Brady going to the Bucs. The Colts added Phllip Rivers, the Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater. The Saints re-signed Drew Brees.

In one day, several big names were traded. DeAndre Hopkins, David Johnson, Stefan Diggs and DeForest Buckner were all dealt.

Others like Todd Gurley were let go and signed elsewhere. Gurley landed in Atlanta.
