THE DICK VITALE CENTER COURT CLUB

Good News!

As many of you know, I had throat surgery on Dec. 18th in Boston.   Dr. Steven Zeitels who operated on me gave me a really really tough assignment, simply don't talk for a little better than 3 weeks.  It was tough, but I accomplished it and received good news on Jan. 13th when I visited Dr. Zeitels for an evaluation.  He indicated that I can start back working the first week of February and trust me I can't wait to interact with all the fans players and coaches.  I absolutely love it and it keeps me young at heart.  I am hoping and praying that I can join Mike Patrick at courtside for the Duke vs. North Carolina game on February 6th.

Super Seven

Hey, now let me lay on you my Super Seven.  That's right, seven hoopsters that were absolutely super, scintillating and sensational during the pre-conference schedule.

Tyler Hansbrough - North Carolina

Wayne Ellington - North Carolina

Chris Douglas Roberts - Memphis

Brian Roberts - Dayton

Michael Beasley - Kansas State

Eric Gordon - Indiana

DJ Augustin - Texas

Jayhawks Jammin'

Bill Self's Kansas Jayhawks have been absolutely dominant.  To me, their perimeter game is the most versatile and complete in college basketball.  Russell Robertson, Mario Chalmers, Sherron Collins and Brandon Rush give them great flexibility.  Their frontcourt has improved immensely and they are very athletic and utilize their defensive quickness to generate offense.  This could be the year the Jayhawks cut the nets down in San Antonio.

Stars in the Making

The coaching fraternity has future stars in Sean Miller (Xavier), Traverse Ford (UMass) and it is going to be very difficult for their respective schools to keep them from one of the major conferences in America.

Sun Devils Surge

What about the amazing job being done by Herb Sendek at Arizona State?  Sendek took NC State to 5 consecutive NCAA tournaments, but was never truly appreciated by the fan base in Raleigh.  They certainly love what he is doing in Tempe as his Sun Devils ended a 12 game losing streak to Arizona their arch rival when Diaper Dandy sensation James Harden sparked them to a big victory.

Conference Question

A big question that I'm constantly asked is: "What is the best conference in America?"  This runs in cycles, and this season my VBDI (Vitale Bald Dome Index) clearly indicates to me that the Pac 10 is Number One.

Louisville Ready to Make their Mark

Now that Rick Pitino has a full cast to work with, people are starting to see the real Louisville basketball team perform.  They have dominated Kentucky, Marquette and have been receiving positive contributions from David Padgett who many thought would never ever play this year after the numerous knee injuries that he has suffered.  He is very inspirational to all who wear a Cardinal uniform and has demonstrated a great deal of courage while playing in pain.

Topsy Turvy in the Atlantic 10

The Atlantic 10 Conference has been absolutely wacky as every night there seems to be a surprise.  Who would have ever believe that a Rick Majerus team would score 20 points in a game and be humiliated by George Washington and then turn around and come back and post a victory over nationally rated Rhode Island.  My feeling is that the Atlantic 10 is the most improved conference in America.  I want to wish the best of luck to Linda Bruno, the commissioner, who has resigned effective at the end of the season.

Motivational DVDs are Hot!

Hope that many of you get the opportunity to purchase my new DVDs on motivation as I am really pleased with the reviews I have received from those who have bought them.  They really excite me because I had the opportunity to share my insights as to what I believe is essential in making it in the game of life.  Also, I made certain that they would fulfill the needs of anyone including students, athletes and those from the corporate community.  Please check my website dickvitaleonline.com as the three DVDs can be purchased as a package for $99.99 or individually for $39.99.

Until next month, enjoy hoops, baby, as it is starting to heat up as conference play gets really intense.

Happy Hoops !
