THE DICK VITALE CENTER COURT CLUB
JULY 10, 2007 Now that the NBA draft has been completed and officially Greg Oden will be in Portland and Kevin Durant in Seattle, it's time to take a look at next year's future Prime Time Performers. In fact, let me give you my Dickie V All Rolls Royce top five for the 2007-08 season. Center - Roy Hibbert - Georgetown Power Forward - Tyler Hansborough - North Carolina Swing Forward - Brandon Rush - Kansas Scoring Guard - Chris Lofton - Tennessee Point Guard - Drew Neitzel - Michigan State
Let's take a look at my pre-season Super Seven for next season:
What about my "All Stayed-In-School Team"! This team is composed of players who withdrew their name from the NBA draft and returned to become BMOC (Big Man on Campus): Roy Hibbert - Georgetown Sean Singletary - Virginia Dominic James - Marquette Joseph Jones - Texas A&M Aaron Bruce - Baylor
Sorry to learn about the passing of former Providence All-American and genuine superstar, Jimmy Walker. Walker in the 60's dominated college basketball and was light years ahead of all with his flamboyant style of handling the basketball. Later we found out that he was the dad of Jaylen Rose, former star of the University of Michigan and a member of the Fab Five.
Schools that had phenomenal recruiting classes for this upcoming University of Southern Cal Duke
In South Bend, Indiana, Mike Brey is ecstatic that Kyle McAlarney will be back in a Fightin' Irish uniform. Remember, he was dismissed from school after an arrest for the possession of marijuana. However, due to his previous record and an apology, the university has provided him a second opportunity. Something tells me he is going to make the most of it. Coastal Carolina recently hired Cliff Ellis as their new basketball coach. Ellis replaces Buzz Peterson who will be joining the Charlotte Bobcats (NBA) and his former college roommate, the one and only Michael Jordan. Ellis, just like Bobby Cremins, has basketball in his blood. They both love working with young people on the collegiate level. If you're looking for a "Sleeper" team for next season, keep a keen eye on UAB. Mike Davis, former Indiana coach, has several big time transfers ready to make big noise. Look for Robert Vaden from Indiana and Walter Sharpe from Mississippi State to be instant contributors to the Blazer's program. Happy Hoops !Visit Dick Vitale's website at www.dickvitaleonline.com |
